Fondation Adrienne et Pierre Sommer
The Adrienne & Pierre Sommer Foundation - an independent, non-profit organization operating in France - has been dedicated to human–animal relationships, since 1971.
Each year the Foundation reviews 1,000 applications and distributes 1 to 1.5 million euros in funding for children’s education about animals, animal-assisted activities in social services and healthcare institutions.
It has pioneered programs in correctional facilities and created France’s first courthouse dog program.
By funding research since 2006 and conducting national surveys on animal-assisted activities, it helps structure and legitimize the field and offers an ideal meeting point for national and international dialogue on human–animal relationships.
An ISAZ member since 2010, the Adrienne & Pierre Sommer Foundation holds a unique position in France and even internationally, offering a neutral and supportive meeting point for the scientific community, social service, healthcare, and educational establishments, and people providing animal-assisted activities.
